Tanja Kernweiss studied photography at the University of Applied Science in Munich and did her post-graduate with Arno Fischer at the Ostkreuzschule in Berlin. Her main fields of interest are people and stories, so she specialized in portrait photography and documentary/feature photography.
Amongst her freelance work are on-going projects including a long-time observation of a woman and the visual approach to a music culture phenomenon.

Her editorial work has been featured in publications such as Süddeutsche Zeitung, Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin, Die Zeit, Zeit Magazin, Monopol, NEON Magazin, Vice Magazine, Intro, Jetzt Magazin, Missy Magazin, Nido, Das Buch als Magazin, Zeit Campus and GEO Wissen.

Her photography work has been commissioned by an array of clients including Theater Dortmund, Deutsches Symphonie Orchester (DSO), BMW and btb Verlag.

In 2011, she was nominated for the Förderpreis der Landeshauptstadt München.
In 2015, she received an honorarable mention from Hansel Mieth Preis for her work “Herzenssache” for Zeit Magazin.

Tanja Kernweiss lives in Munich and works all around the world.
